We wait for months in anticipation of locally grown heirloom tomatoes so they can be savored in this classic summer salad. While tomatoes, mozzarella & basil are a natural match that's loved year round, heirloom tomatoes are cherished for their exceptional flavor passed down from season to season. This bundle pairs the season's freshly harvested heirloom tomatoes with hand-pulled mozzarella cheese and just-picked Italian basil for the ultimate trifecta of summer flavor. Drizzle the caprese salad with your favorite balsamic vinegar and olive oil, and sprinkle with salt and pepper.

Beyond enjoying the caprese with knife and fork, we love topping it with a lightly dressed arugula salad, dotted over pizza dough, and sandwiched between grilled slices of ciabatta bread.

Serves 4-6 as an appetizer or side.

TEP 1  Slice the mozzarella and tomatoes into thin rounds, about 1/4 to 1/3-inch thick pieces. (Note: For maximum flavor and texture, set refrigerated tomatoes and cheese on kitchen counter 30-60 minutes before serving to take the chill off.) Set aside.
STEP 2  Pick whole basil leaves. Wash and dry; set aside.

STEPOn a larger platter, lay the sliced tomatoes, mozzarella and whole basil leaves in an alternating and overlapping pattern. Season with plenty of salt and pepper, a drizzle of olive oil and balsamic vinegar to taste.

Make ahead: Layer tomatoes, mozzarella & basil. Cover and refrigerate. Set on kitchen counter 30-60 minutes to take the chill off, then season and dress with olive oil and balsamic vinegar just before serving.
